Handling ZIP Files With WinRAR Minimize

The information below contains instructions for both creating a ZIP file and decompressing a ZIP file using the WinRAR progam.

 Create a Zip File Minimize

Here's the procedure to create a ZIP file using the WinRAR program.

  1. Make sure that all files to be zipped are in a single folder.
  2. Open “Windows Explorer” and go to the folder that contains the files to be zipped.
  3. Select all files to be zipped using the following procedure.
    1. Hold down the <CTRL> key.
    2. Click on each file until all files are selected.
    3. Release the <CTRL> key.
    4. All of the files in question should still be selected (highlighted).
  4. Right-click on one of the selected files and select the following menu option:
    1. WinRAR -> Add to Archive…
  5. The “Archive name and parameters” window will open.
    1. On the “General” Tab…
      1. Change “Archive Format” from “RAR” to “ZIP”.
      2. Specify a file name in the “Archive Name” field.
    2. Click “OK”
  6. The ZIP process may take several seconds.
  7. When the process completed, the filename that you specified should exist in the current folder.

Here's the procedure to create a ZIP file using the WinRAR program.

  3. Right-click on the ZIP select one of the following menu options:
    1. WinRAR -> Extract Files
      1. This opens the "Extraction Path and Options" window.
      2. This allows you to specify a different folder location as well as other options.
      3. Click "OK" once you made your selection.

      1. This extracts the ZIP file into the current folder.
    3. WinRAR -> Extract to foldername\
      1. Foldername\ is the name of the ZIP file.
      2. This creates a subfolder within the current folder and extracts the files there.
  4. Unless the ZIP file is very large, the extraction process only lasts a few seconds.
